Day 1 - Mount Rinjani National Park Office to Sembalun Crater Rim (2,639 m)

The Journey to the Edge of the Clouds

Day 1 of the Mount Rinjani 2D1N Summit trek is an epic introduction to the “Island of a Thousand Mosques.” Starting from the Sembalun route, you will transition from golden savannas to the dramatic volcanic ridgeline of the Sembalun Crater Rim.

Morning: The Savanna Crossing

  • 06:00 AM – Fuel Up in Senaru: Start your day with a hearty breakfast at our base in Senaru. Final gear checks and briefings are conducted here to ensure you are summit-ready.
  • 07:00 AM – Transfer to Sembalun: A scenic 1-hour drive takes you to Sembalun Village.
  • Registration at RIC: Official check-in at the Rinjani Information Center (1,051 m). Your adventure officially begins!
  • The Gentle Start: The first few hours involve a steady walk across the iconic Sembalun savanna. Keep your camera ready for the vast, golden landscapes.

Mid-Day: Rest & Refuel

Evening: Sunset at Sembalun Crater Rim

Day 2 is the “Championship Day.” It begins under a blanket of stars as you push for the highest point on Lombok, followed by a rewarding descent through the golden savannas of Sembalun.

The Midnight Push: Reaching the Peak

  • 02:30 AM – Wake-up Call: A quick light breakfast and hot tea/coffee at the camp to fuel your body. Put on your warm layers and headlamps—it’s time for the summit!
  • 03:00 AM – The Ascent Begins: The climb is divided into three parts:
  1. The Ridge: A steady 1.5-hour climb on firm ground.
  2. The Traverse: An hour-long walk along the exposed ridge with the mountain wind as your companion.
  3. The Screen (Final Push): The most challenging part. Walking on loose volcanic sand and gravel where “two steps up, one step back” is the norm.

Rinjani porters carry all logistics, including tents, food, and cooking tools, weighing up to 25–30kg. Please note that the porter’s primary job is to carry group equipment, not your personal daypack. If you need someone to carry your personal luggage, you can hire an extra private porter.

For the 2D1N summit program, the most common starting point is Sembalun Village. Starting from Sembalun (1,156m) provides the most direct access to the crater rim and the summit. After reaching the peak, you will descend back through the same route to Sembalun.
